Let’s get lost tonight,
Let’s go to the gym and lift weights tonight,
I’ll do squats and you do deadlifts tonight,
‘Cuz we don’t really care what they all say, right?

N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
Do you have a New Year’s Resolution?
“Resolutions” get a bad rap.
You bring them up, and you get a bunch of people who roll their eyes and say “yeah, right, you’ll never accomplish that”.
I suppose usually, they’re right.
The vast majority of New Year’s Resolutions don’t become permanent habits.
But that doesn’t mean it never happens…
Quick story…
I stopped playing baseball after my sophomore year in college.
I was 20 years old at the time.
My entire life had been non-stop sports, practices, and conditioning up to that point.
I was so burned out from the years of working out, the last thing I wanted to do was go to the gym.
I needed a break.
So, I took one.
The only problem was it lasted 4 years, and I gained over 50 pounds from inactivity and overeating.
Yikes.
Christmas, 2004, my grandma sent me a pair of Dockers up to Michigan as a present.
I ordered them in a 44″ waist.
When they arrived, I opened them up and tried them on.
I couldn’t even button them.
I was so ashamed at what I had become.
A 44″ waist? 44 inches?!
And they weren’t even big enough?
In high school, I had a 34″ waist.
I turned to my wife, and said, “Hey, honey, there’s a new gym opening down the street in January – let’s go join it tomorrow.”
And just like that, I was a “New Year’s Resolutioner”.
For a long time, I was your normal, average gym goer.
I didn’t track workouts.
I always skipped leg day.
I didn’t pay close attention to my diet.
And I didn’t get very good results.
But still – the very first lead Domino that ultimately ended up changing my life was deciding to get in shape for my New Year’s Resolution in 2005.
So, there.
There’s one New Year’s Resolution that actually stuck.
Only you can decide if you’ll stick to your goals this year.
I do have advice for you today, as well.
Don’t have a New Year’s Resolution of “lose 30 pounds”.
Instead, make your goals action based.
If I had to pinpoint the 2 most important habits I’ve learned in my many years of training, and coaching others, they are:
Habit #1: Do not skip workouts.
Simple enough.
Get them done.
Make it happen.
Only skip workouts if you’re sick/injured, there’s a family emergency, or they’re a scheduled break for a vacation.
Habit #2: Eat enough protein daily.
Tracking your macros is a great idea, but if that’s too much for now, just track your protein.
Eat 1 gram of protein for each pound of your goal bodyweight (in pounds).
Just doing this will naturally lower your hunger levels, give you more energy, make your workouts better, and make maintaining a lower bodyweight easier.
I would bet good money if you focus intently on these 2 habits during 2025, your body will change dramatically.
But it’s an every day thing.
Make it happen.
You got this.
(And HAPPY NEW YEAR’S!)
