Time for the newest edition of “Gainz Of The Week” – the premier spot for the best information to improve your fitness levels – and your life.
This week saw me feeling tired, run-down and just plain worn out. After 8 months in a caloric deficit, I’m finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The school year starts in 3 weeks, and a growth cycle will begin.
All this dieting has taught me a few things:
1. Once you get lean, do everything you can to not gain excess fat again. Losing fat always takes longer than you think.
2. IIFYM is nice, but eliminating foods you don’t respond well to (casein and pasta for me) will help you fight belly bloat and give you extra energy.
3. If you’re eating a bacon and cheese sandwich, you don’t really feel like you’re on a diet.

This week’s article wasn’t too “fitness-y”, but it was one of my favorite articles to date.
We spend WAY too much time on our smartphones and are forgetting to be present and connect with the world around us.
When I found my own daughter yelling at me for not paying attention to her, my embarrassment turned into a desire to change. I created a game plan.
It’s a gameplan which has been shared around 300 times on social media and has struck a chord with thousands.
You can read about it here ===> [Read “Get Your Life Back: Defining Facebook”]
Client Gainz Of The Week
This week we highlight client Jen.
Jen has been working with us for a long time. She joined in 2014, and has been kicking ass ever since.
Jen has adopted the PERFECT mindset for her fitness – and her life. During our time together, she got married, went on a honeymoon, and even moved! Through it all, she took it one day at a time, made it about the process instead of the results, and forgave herself quickly when she messed up.
The end result is amazing:
Left, before. Center and right, after.
My favorite part? Jen is a POWERLIFTER – she deadlifts over double her bodyweight and squats around twice her bodyweight as well.
Lifting makes women bulky? Jen calls bullshit.
Here’s a graphic of her body measurements over time:
Notice the over all TREND trumps the daily fluctuations.
Excellent job, Jen – nicely done!
Thought Gainz Of The Week
This week’s thoughts come from an email from someone named Jason (GREAT name, BTW….)
Jason asked, “Have your feelings of happiness changed over the past year? Since you’ve written “The 6-Pack of Unhappiness” [CLICK HERE to read], you’ve leaned out and are shredded again. Are you happier now than you were then? Do abs give you happiness?”
A GREAT question.
Here’s my response:
