N.W.A. Nutrition Tip of The Week
Everyone wants the short cut, and the quick fix.
They want the fastest path to Point B.
And as such, the search for “hacks” that will get them there quicker.
One of the most common questions I get from clients is “Is there a meal plan to follow?”
And the answer to that is “Nope, there sure isn’t…”
People get bummed out at this.
In fact, I’ve lost business from it.
But I refuse to offer a service that will not benefit people long-term.
Would you like a fool proof meal plan that will get you lean?
Cool, here it goes.
- Eat a protein shake with a piece of fruit for breakfast
- Eat 8 ounces of salmon, veggies, and half a potato for lunch
- Eat 8 ounces of chicken breast, veggies, and rice for dinner
.
Do this every day.
Report back to me when you have a 6 pack.
That simple format would put pretty much anyone on earth in a proper calorie deficit – male, female, no matter your age.
You’ll lose a TON of weight, and very quickly if you do that.
But is it something sustainable that you’ll do long term?
There’s a 99.9999999999% chance the answer to that question is “No”.
Truth be told, when I first started Anyman Fitness back in 2013, I did offer done-for-you meal plans.
I gave every client 5 breakfasts, 5 lunches, and 10 dinners that hit their calorie/macro requirements perfectly.
Some people didn’t use them because they didn’t like the foods I gave them.
Other people used them exclusively… and they lost a bunch of weight!
Aaaaaaand then, they gained it all back.
Every. Single. One.
It was at that point where I realized how faulty “meal plans” are for long-term nutritional success…
Dieting with a “meal plan” is like taking the test with a cheat sheet.
Sure you’ll get an A.
But you won’t learn shit.
And eventually you’ll be exposed for being a cheating fraud.
To succeed long term, you need to go through a discovery process and “unlearn” everything you’ve been taught about nutrition.
You need to learn proper portion sizes for YOU.
You need to learn how to dine out and make rational, intelligent decisions.
You need to learn what foods are “every day” foods, what foods are “every once in awhile” foods, and what foods are “never eat that” foods.
This only happens via tracking your nutrition meticulously for a period of time.
And most importantly, you need to learn how to do all of this while eating the foods you love.
In my opinion, that’s the most important part.
You will never keep the weight off unless you love the foods you eat.
If you’re just eating foods because they’re “healthy”, that’s a sure fire recipe to crack and revert back to your old habits.
Healthy.
Tasty.
Repeatable.
THAT’S what you should aim for.
Aim for foods that hit your calorie goals.
Aim for foods that taste good to you.
Aim for foods you can eat pretty much every day and not get tired of.
Then, begin… and take it day by day…
Fast forward a few years into the future, and you’ll be golden.
Our clients have zero off limit foods, and they average 4″ off their waists in the first 3 months of coaching with us.
They also have access to 17+ professionally designed strength training programs, 24/7 access to our coaches, and a custom designed app to track all their progress and communicate on our in-app message boards.
N.W.A. Mindset Tip of The Week
I have never heard someone say “I wish I had waited longer to take fitness seriously.”
Never.
Not once in the last decade I’ve been coaching others.
But you know what I have heard?
“Oh my gosh, Jason, I followed you for years before I finally took the plunge.
I wasted so much time!
If only I had done this sooner!”
Why do we procrastinate so much when it comes to our fitness?
We all do this.
I’ve been guilty of it before.
We think we have “all the time in the world”, until one day we realize our time has run out…
A few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me he wanted to get in shape and lose the excess weight that has accumulated around his midsection.
I was happy he said something to me – he used to be a fit, healthy dude, and the hands of time have not been kind to him.
I worry about his health, and I was excited he was ready to take action.
I told him about another buddy of mine – a mutual friend – who had joined our 1:1 program at over 300 pounds.
I gushed about how our other buddy had lowered his A1C into a healthy range, reversed his diabetes, and reduced his blood pressure.
In response, my friend said, “Oh, I don’t have any of those problems, I’m totally healthy, I just have to lose the gut.”
I didn’t say anything in return… didn’t want to rain on his parade…
But a big part of me wanted to say, “Trust me, you will…”
It’s only a matter of time.
“Health At Any Size” is a total sham.
A facade, a coping mechanism overweight people use to justify why they’re not fighting to get into better shape and lose the weight.
Time is a funny thing.
It’s the only constant in this world.
It waits for no man, and no woman.
No matter how much time you think you have, you have less than you think.
The best time to get started is 10 years ago.
But the next best time is always NOW.
One Favorite Social Media Post Of The Week:
Simple eating is healthy eating.
Stop thinking you need to be a Michelin chef to eat healthy.
Get some meat
Grill or broil it
Add in healthy carbs
Season accordingly
Eat it
That’s literally all there is to “healthy eating”.
I hope you enjoyed this edition of the Anyman Fitness N.W.A. Newsletter.
I’ll be back next week.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
