Without any further ado, let’s get started..
N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
I’ve been coaching people online for 11 years.
There is only one question that grinds my gears.
I cringe every time I get asked this.
It takes every bit of energy not to go on a rant when someone drops this one on me…
That question is, “How long will this take?”
There are lots of variations to this question as well.
Like:
“Do you think I can lose 20 pounds in the next 2 months?”
“I’m hoping to have abs by the summer, do you think that’s possible?”
“I want to be a size 6 by my daughter’s wedding, can you make that happen?”
I suppose I shouldn’t get too upset.
After all, if people didn’t have these thoughts, they wouldn’t hire a coach (and I wouldn’t be in business).
But there’s a few reasons why that question just doesn’t sit right with me.
First, I have no idea, and can only speak in hypotheticals.
I can give you a rough estimate based on your metabolism, your deficit, the time frame you’re looking at, and your past history.
But it’s just a wild guess and nothing more.
I can’t predict the future any more than you can.
Second, any prediction I DO make is based on a massive assumption – that YOU are going to execute every single day.
All the hypothetical scenarios in the world won’t account for Factor #1 in how rapidly you will make progress:
Your compliance.
You may be jazzed up now, before you get started.
You may be super motivated to train hard and nail your diet every day.
But will you allow that to wear off 2 weeks into your program?
Well?
This is SO common… has it ever happened to you?
You swear this time is different, you’re going to stick to your diet/training forever, you’re never going to quit…
And a month into it, you’ve stopped (yet again).
(If this IS you, don’t be upset by this, it’s incredibly common; motivation wears off a few weeks into anything, you cannot rely on motivation to get into great shape.)
So yeah, I can give you a rough guess, but in order for that rough guess to come true you must show up ready to do the work every single day, without fail.
Do you have it in you?
Third, there’s an underlying question here… “How long will this take so I can go back to my previous habits and stop “dieting”…
And if you’re thinking that way, you have already lost.
The way you eat when you are “dieting” is the way you need to eat all the time.
You just make the portions bigger.
Read that again…
You should always be eating lean animal meats. Rice and potatoes. Fruit and veggies. Whole grain oats. Minimal added fats.
Always.
When you reach your goal weight, you don’t flip the switch and head to McDonald’s, or start eating ice cream and donuts.
You just eat bigger portions of healthy, whole foods.
This is a tough one for some people to grasp.
You need to change your lifestyle and dietary preferences to maintain a healthy bodyweight.
There’s no way around it.
Check out this recent testimonial from Amy, a member of Full Access: Anyman Fitness:
Amy lost 72 pounds in our program (incredible!).
It took her 4 years to lose it all.
4 years.
So, if you asked me, “Hey, Jason, how long will it take me to lose 72 pounds?”
And I said “4 years”… how would you react?
One more question… Do you think Amy cares that it took her 4 years to lose 72 pounds (spoiler alert, she does not).
Real progress takes time.
And persistence.
And dedication.
The real reason I hate the question “How long will it take?” is because it doesn’t freaking matter.
If you keep going, you’ll get there eventually.
Forget about time frames; work on building proper habits that will last you a lifetime instead.

Not gonna lie, I hated this song when it first came out. It grew on me eventually… (NSFW – language)
