Without any further ado, let’s get started..
N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
I’ve been coaching people online for 11 years.
In that time, I’ve seen a lot of different trends, and I’ve noticed how people’s mindsets have changed over the years.
One of the more common trends I’m seeing is a refusal to do any work when it comes to meal planning and meal prepping.
In 2013, when I started coaching people, there was no “My Fitness Pal”.
There were no real iPhone apps that would tell me the exact nutrition of anything I wanted to eat.
I lost 85 pounds from 2011 – 2013.
I had to get my hands dirty, and figure things out the old fashioned way.
By using my brain, a pencil, a piece of paper, and a calculator.
A lot has changed in the last 10 years.
We have become a society who no longer values the process; instead, we want the result without putting forth any actual effort.
We are so used to having everything at the tips of our fingers, on a smartphone, that anything which requires introspection and reflection is seen as a nuisance at best, and a waste of time at the worst.
More and more people message me these days saying, “Okay, I want to join coaching, you’re going to tell me exactly what to eat, right?”
This is a red flag for a coach.
This is akin to one of my old middle students saying, “Can’t you just give me the answers to the test so I can get an A?”
Obviously, I wouldn’t do that.
Instead, I would tell them,
“Who cares if you get an A in middle school math?
It means nothing.
I want you to do the work, and learn how to be successful, and build a foundation so you find high school math easier.”
The same concept applies for people who want a coach to tell them exactly what to eat.
When it comes to finding what works for YOU, diet wise, you need to understand that you must do the work in order to be successful…
Nobody can do that work for you.
You need to figure out what your favorite foods are.
What types of foods you can eat repeatedly and not tire of them.
What types of foods make you feel/perform your best.
What types of foods hit your energy requirements.
And those things are different for everyone.
There are a million tracking apps that can help.
Our clients get a massive Recipe Guide with over 80 recipes to get them started.
But you will STILL need to do the planning, and put in the work to hit your calories, protein, and macros.
A coach really cannot do that for you.
A “done for you” meal plan is a band aid on your problem.
I have never done that for a client, and I never will.
Because I only focus on LONG TERM results, and long term results require introspection and reflection, not just a BS “here, eat this” menu to choose from.
Everyone who has lost the weight the right way and has kept it off has gone through this discovery process.
You are no different.
Millions of people have used “done for you” meal plans to try to lose weight.
Almost all of those people gain the weight back because they have not learned the skills required to make informed decisions without those decisions being made for them.
Stop avoiding the hard work you know you need to do.
Embrace the uncomfortability that comes with figuring out a new skill.
Take it day by day, and work on improving your own eating system, and always be working on refining and perfecting it.
And stop searching for a slick, new app because you think it will be the answer to all your problems.
Because it won’t.
You must be willing to do the work if you want to beat obesity for good.
