N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
Did you see that viral Instagram reel from a few weeks back?
A guy posted a video of himself shirtless with the heading “physique after 17 years of lifting weights 5 times per week” – here’s a screenshot of the video:

Of course, the comment section was interesting.
There were some “nice jobs” and “great physiques” but there were more than a few negative comments like these:

When the video came across my feed, I had to smile a bit, because I know the “game” so to speak.
The poster had a pretty solid physique, in reality.
If he took a couple of weeks, dieted down a few more pounds, and took this photo after he worked out, with softer lighting, he would look incredible.
Here’s what I mean…
This is what I normally look like, under regular lighting conditions in the middle of the day:

Nothing remarkable, a relatively in shape guy but you’d never say “wow” looking at that picture.
Also, I’ve been training non-stop 4-5 days per week for 14 years, and I’m completely natural (similar to the poster of the video).
But this is what I look like when I take an “internet picture”:

Big difference, eh?
Here’s what I had to do to take that picture and get my physique to look like that:
- I dieted for 9 months to get down to 8% body fat.
- For the last 2 months of my diet, I was perfect – no alcohol and zero desserts
- I took the picture on a Saturday morning, after I woke up, before I ate or drank anything so I was as dehydrated and dry as possible.
- 2 hours before I took the picture, I popped a Cialis to get the blood flowing to my muscles (common bodybuilding trick).
- 1 hour before I took the picture, I did a hard upper body workout to get pumped up and the veins popping.
- I found a room in my house with no windows/side lighting, and I put in a soft yellow bulb, and dimmed it.
- I sucked in my gut and flexed so hard my body started cramping (seriously).
- After all of that, I ran the picture through a filter to make my cuts look deeper.
All just to take some pictures for my website and social media…
Social media pictures are fake.
They don’t represent real life.
I love the way that picture looks, and of course I’m going to use it on my website and for my business – why wouldn’t I?
My physique is my “brochure” – if I have pictures like that, they do help drive business.
It is what it is.
But I don’t go around looking like that 24/7/365.
There’s a heck of a process involved to take a picture like the ones you see all over Instagram.
And I didn’t even begin to discuss the use of testosterone and/or PED’s, which is rampant as well…
New rule: If you’re going to talk crap about someone else’s physique, you have to post YOUR physique FIRST.
