In the bench press and shoulder press, lifting 4 plates,
With my creatine, screaming out “GOTTA GET MY GAINS”,
I don’t like it if it don’t bring the pain,
In the squat rack, holler back “GOTTA GET MY GAINS”.

N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
Recently, the world of online fitness was “rocked” with some wild news.
(Maybe not “rocked”, but it still raised a lot of eyebrows.)
Paul Saladino, the self-proclaimed “Carnivore MD”, admitted to his (huge) audience that he no longer follows Carnivore.
He went so far as to say he made a mistake by promoting the diet, and he now considers it to be “unhealthy”.
That’s a lot to unpack.
Especially if you’ve been following Paul for awhile.
(I’m not going to link to his account; I don’t recommend following him for legitimate nutrition information, but I suppose for entertainment purposes, he’s top notch…)
For years, Paul has been making inflammatory, fear-based statements about anything under the sun.
Carbohydrates Sugar Seed oils Sunscreen Plastics Fruits (seriously) Vegetables
Basically any food or item that isn’t meat (lol)
He’s been spouting off nonsense information for years.
Here’s a screenshot of a YouTube video he made telling you how harmful broccoli is.
(Yes, I know how insane that sounds, it feels weird just typing that sentence.)
But alas, recently, Paul started having some health problems.
And he realized that perhaps he was misguided…
He still touts an “animal based” diet, but he now incorporates more plants and eats a more balanced nutritional profile.
He also recommends you do the same…
First, the good.
At least he was open and honest about his missteps.
Lots of guys who have built a massive following touting a specific, gimmicky diet (and wrote an actual book on the subject) wouldn’t admit they were wrong.
They would either double down on the meat-only approach, OR they would quietly change their diet while still claiming Carnivore is what everyone should do.
Kudos to Paul, he didn’t do that, he reversed course and admitted his mistake.
BUT… and that’s a BIG but… there’s some real problems here with this…
Paul has a massive online following.
He has 224,000 Twitter followers.
He also has 2 million followers on Instagram.
2 million!
Now, let’s think about this…
Paul has finally realized that eating only meat isn’t the “best diet” for your health.
And it actually can impact your health negatively.
First, NO FREAKING SHIT (lol), this isn’t exactly rocket science.
A balanced diet with plenty of protein, whole food carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, oats, and maybe even some grains is always the way to go.
Second, how many of those 2 million people do you think have had negative health outcomes from following Paul’s advice?
That is a scary thing to think about.
It’s easy to get caught up in fear-porn, and fear-based advertising.
Paul is a good looking guy, he’s charismatic, and he’s in great shape.
He’s also excellent at making social media videos, and getting shares, likes, and follows.
He has an “MD” after his name, so he has a “call to authority”, so to speak (I don’t know if he’s a legitimate doctor, I haven’t looked into it).
So, when you hear a good looking doctor, who’s in great shape, yell out “broccoli will kill you!”, you start to think, “Gee, maybe this guy is right…”
It happens to the best of them…
Here’s a few, quick pieces of advice for you as you curate your own social media timelines accordingly.
- If someone is promoting a specific diet and touting it as “the best diet ever”, ignore the advice.
- Doubly so if the person promoting the diet has a financial incentive such as a book on the diet, or a supplement line for the diet (very common!).
- Just because you see an “MD” at the end of someone’s name doesn’t mean they have morals or ethics (it also doesn’t mean they’re right).
- You can find a “study” to show just about anything (Paul often cited PubMD studies to make his dubious claims.)
- If it sounds wacky, weird, or too good to be true, it almost always is.
I started Anyman Fitness in 2013.
It’s been over 11 years since I started helping others as a side gig while teaching 8th grade.
In 2013, I made a pact with myself.
It was kind of like a “Hippocratic Oath” I silently decided to follow…
First, I would never promote a diet or exercise program that could potentially harm others.
Second, I would never promote a supplement as the “answer” to someone’s fitness problem (because it never is).
Third, I would always remember to freely help others and put them first above my own vanity or popularity.
I figured if I did those 3 things, and I worked hard, only good things would happen.
And boy was I right…
Be careful of who you follow out there in social media land.
These days, it’s like the Wild, Wild West.
Everyone things they have “the answer” to your health problems.
You just have to pay them to get it, of course.

Your goal isn’t to “lose weight”.
Your goal is to lose “pure body fat”.
The only way to ensure you’re not losing muscle is to:
1. Lift weights with intensity 3+ times/week
2. Eat plenty of protein
Be sure this happens if you’re currently dieting.
