Happy Friday, Coach J here from Anyman Fitness – and welcome to the latest edition of The N.W.A. Newsletter.
Each week with the N.W.A. Newsletter, I give you the best Nutrition, Weightlifting, and/or Attitude advice for you to start to use in your life today.
Tens of thousands of people have used this exact newsletter to gain muscle, lose fat, and become a better version of themselves…
Without any further ado, let’s get started..
N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
“The best way to gain 10 pounds of muscle is to lose 10 pounds of fat”.
I remember the first time I heard this – it didn’t make much sense to me.
How could losing weight make you look bigger?
Wouldn’t gaining weight make you look bigger?
Up until that point, I hadn’t really focused on my diet, though – I had never truly been “lean”.
Many gym goers fall into that boat.
Plenty of guys at my gym lift hard, and are very strong.
But many of those strong guys don’t really look all too muscular; there are layers of fat covering up the muscle they’ve built.
Think of your muscle like a big pile of rocks.
If you put a large, down comforter over the rocks, you won’t even be able to see them.
But if you take away the comforter, and instead, put a light sheet over the rocks, you’ll clearly be able to see the bumps and crevices.
Take this picture for example:
I’m currently towards the end of a long cut.
I weighed in last week at 225 pounds; I was 262 pounds back in January, after bulking for 6 months.
On the left, I weigh 240. I weigh 15 less pounds on the right.
I haven’t gained much, if any, muscle between the 2 pictures.
But I certainly look more muscular and “bigger” on the right.
I have more definition in my shoulders and delts.
I have striations in my chest, and I’m more defined.
It’s crazy how it works, but losing 15 pounds has given me the illusion of having more muscle on my frame.
If you’ve never truly been lean – as in under 15% body fat for men, and 25% body fat for women – you owe it to yourself to get there at least once.
It makes a huge difference in how you feel and look.
Also, if you’re an Apple/iOS user, consider downloading the app “Spren”.
Spren is a body fat testing app; it estimates your body fat percentage using just your cell phone camera (1st scan is free).
It also gives you valuable information, such as your estimated basal metabolic rate (BMR).
This is groundbreaking, patented technology. Spren’s readings have been 3rd party tested and are as accurate as a DEXA scan, which costs hundreds of dollars.
You can download Spren at this link (iOS only, sorry Android folks…).

Not gonna lie, I didn’t like this song very much when it first came out. (NSFW – lyrics)
