Without any further ado, let’s get started..
N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
You should be more “boring”.
With pretty much everything…
The concept of self-improvement is a popular one with the young bros.
Everyone is seeking for the latest hack, the latest short cut, or the latest supplement to help speed up the process of self-improvement.
The young bros watch YouTube videos and try to imitate Andrew Huberman’s super secret longevity hacks.
They take cold plunges/ice baths, sun their balls (seriously), and work on “hacking” their circadian rhythm.
All in a quest to get healthier – quickly.
The young bros buy crypto “shit-coins” and try to make money on the ‘pump and dump’ schemes before the rug gets pulled out.
They desperately want that Lambo, and they seek for ways to get it before they turn 25.
All in a quest to get richer – quickly.
But the thing about self-improvement is if you want to make it far in life, and be successful, you have to be willing to do the “boring” stuff day in and day out, for a long time.
Sometimes in the gym, people will ask me for my ‘secret’.
They ask me about my diet plan, my training plan, and how I’m able to stay muscular and lean at the age of 43.
But when I tell them, “I lift 4 times per week, try to hit 10k steps per day, go to sleep by 10 pm, avoid booze, keep my protein high, and keep my calories in check”, they’re always disappointed.
That’s not a “hack”.
That’s not what they’re looking for…
Sometimes, on social media, new coaches DM me asking me for my ‘secret’.
They’re looking for a sales tactic, a “growth hacking plan” or some behind-the-scenes way I’ve been able to make a good living with online fitness.
But when I tell them, “I make social media content every day, send a newsletter every Friday, provide helpful information, work closely with my clients to get the best results possible, and I’ve been doing it for the last 13 years”, they’re always disappointed.
That’s not a “hack”.
That’s not what they’re looking for…
People overestimate what they can accomplish in 3 months, and underestimate what they can accomplish in 10 years.
My first year of taking fitness seriously was 2011.
I lost 50 pounds that year, which was good.
But I didn’t gain much muscle.
It wasn’t until 2015 that my frame really started filling out a bit.
That’s 4 years before I started seeing concrete results from lifting weights – 4 years doing the “boring stuff” before I looked muscular.
My first year of business with Anyman Fitness was 2013.
I made $2,500 that year.
It was minimum wage – likely less. I had worked relentlessly for the entire year, just to make less than 3 grand.
It wasn’t until 2015 that things started to snowball and I said, “Holy shit, I think this is my new career.”
That’s 3 years doing the “boring stuff” before I started making substantial money.
I’m not special.
Nor am I super intelligent.
I don’t tell you this to brag – I tell you this to give you a proper perspective on how long this stuff takes.
The entire 4 years I was training hard, I kept learning, kept improving, and kept doing the “boring” stuff every single day, that most people just don’t want to do.
I ate high protein every day. I kept my calories in check every day. I didn’t ‘program hop’ to a new workout every other week. I tried to get as much sleep as I could. I pushed myself hard in the gym.
That’s super boring.
And it took 4 years to start making serious progress.
For 4, straight years, I saw small, gradual changes, and by the end of it, my body had transformed significantly.
The entire 3 years I was working on building my business, I kept putting out content, kept emailing my community, kept helping clients, and I kept trying to get better.
I wrote 2 articles per week for my blog. I made social media posts daily. I created new workouts and training regimens for clients. I emailed my community weekly to give free, helpful information.
That’s super boring.
And it took 3 years to start making serious progress.
For 3, straight years, I saw small, gradual changes, and by the end of it, I was able to quit my teaching career and do this full time.
Do you have the discipline to stick to self-improvement for that long?
3-4 years?
It’s not easy.
You have to do the boring, obvious things nobody else wants to do.
Your odds of winning with a “hack” are slim to none.
But your odds of winning by repeating the same boring, good-for-you habits every single day are sky high.
It’s just gonna take more time than you think it will.
(But trust me, it’s worth it.)

- You eliminate an entire food group (carbs)
- You ramp up your protein which enhances your metabolism
