Howdy and Happy Sunday!
As the leaves begin to change colors and fall off the trees up here in Michigan, we are enjoying our last “Indian Summer”.
70 degree days all week – without a bit of humidity in the air.
The crisp, fall nights remind us of the brutally cold winter to come.
I love this time of the year.
It’s time for hoodies, sweatshirts, apple cider, and donuts.
Thank God it’s bulking season.
🙂
Reading Gainz By Jason
This week saw two articles hit the interwebz.
The first article was this past Sunday.
A gym-buddy of mine passed suddenly – he took his own life.
This was my way of remembering him.
This one was for you, buddy – “One, Last Heavy Set” ===> [CLICK HERE]
Also, a “GoFundMe” account has been set up for his wife and children.
If you wish to donate anything, no matter how small, ===> [CLICK HERE]
And finally, on Tuesday, our featured article was from Nick Smoot, owner of Smoot Fitness.
This guest article discussed how to increase training volume once you outgrow linear progress.
This article also made the Personal Trainer Development Center’s list of the “Best Articles of the Week”! Nice job, Nick!

Client Gainz Of The Week
This week’s Client Gainz come from long-term client Fran.
Fran has been with us through thick and thin.
She’s a prime example of how strength training benefits all other fitness endeavors.
While Fran enjoys weight training, she’s into other fitness areas as well.
Here is Fran showing off her aerial skills – an area which has improved by leaps and bounds due to her continual strength progress with us.
Impressive stuff, Fran!
Thought Gainz Of The Week
This week’s Thought Gainz come courtesy of a question from client Kaylie.
Kaylie had a few thoughts about her dietary selection; specifically carbohydrates.
Kaylie’s question:
Hi, Jason,
On training days, we eat a bunch of carbs.
Seriously, I’m not used this many carbs, and it’s tough to pick out good ones!
I’ve been trying to eat “slow carbs” as often as possible so my body can process them better.
I’m picking things like oatmeal, brown rice, and sweet potatoes over bread, white rice, and regular potatoes.
What are your thoughts on the “GI Scale”? Should I worry about spiking insulin?
Is this really a big deal?
Thanks! -Kaylie
An excellent question, Kaylie.
Here’s my response:
