Locked myself in a room doing five lifts a day for three summers,
That’s a different world like Cree Summers,
I deserve to squat these numbers.

N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
In the winter of 2021, I was scrolling X (which was Twitter at the time), and I saw a notification in my DM’s.
I checked my messages, and saw a direct message from James Clear, the author of the (insanely) popular book Atomic Habits.
James wanted to team up and have me coach him, and was asking about information on my 1:1 coaching program.
After a bit of back and forth about his goals and how the program works, he said “I’m in, send me an invoice” and he became my client.
As most business owners do, I often struggle from imposter syndrome.
I started this business from scratch during my lunch breaks teaching middle school in 2013.
It still boggles my mind that it’s become what it’s become.
I feel like I’m playing “business owner” in a weird game of make-believe.
(This experience isn’t unique to me, this is a common phenomena – imposter syndrome is very real.)
But when James became my client, it really helped my confidence in myself.
After all, over 20 million copies of Atomic Habits has been sold across the globe.
I had been reading his blog since 2013.
He has millions of fans on his social media profiles and email list.
And James is the King of Habits.
Millions of people go to him to get into great shape.
But he came to me to get into great shape.
Dang, I thought to myself at the time… I really must be doing something right…
James taught me a lot in those 5 years.
But the #1 lesson I took from him during that time is one of his most famous lessons from Atomic Habits.
That lesson is: If you want to stick to a habit, make it attractive.
In the summer of 2021, a few months after James and myself started working together, my business was at a bit of a crossroads.
The pandemic hype of online fitness had calmed down a bit.
I needed a way to really connect with my audience, and stay consistent with it.
Sure, I posted a good amount on X, but that was about it.
What could I do for the people who were my most loyal fans – the people who had signed up for one of my (many) freebies – and were on my email list?
Not to mention my actual, paying clients who were also on my email list.
I had to communicate to them regularly, and stick with it.
I had tried to write newsletters in the past.
Back in 2015, I did a short stint writing what I called the “Gainz Of The Week” and posted them on my site.
Here’s a link if you want to go back in time for a minute.
Don’t hate on me, the format was rudimentary and not very good…
But the Gainz Of The Week only lasted 5 months and then I stopped doing it.
Writing newsletters was so tedious for me.
I hated it – genuinely hated it – and I always fizzled out when I lost motivation.
So, enter James Clear’s advice… “make it attractive”…
I thought to myself, “How can I make writing a newsletter more attractive, and actually begin to enjoy it?”
I had always loved old school, 90’s gangster rap.
That’s what I grew up with.
I was a private school kid from the ‘burbs, what do you expect?
The rebellious nature of the lyrics and the hard hitting beats were alluring for a Catholic kid from a conservative household.
After some brainstorming, I decided to name my new newsletter The NWA Newsletter.
Nutrition.
Weightlifting.
Attitude (Mindset).
That’s what the newsletter would be about.
A bit of a not-so-subtle tongue-in-cheek nod to the infamous rap group that was so controversial in the late 1980’s.
(Fun Fact, Eazy-E died on my birthday in 1995. We were connected cosmically in some weird way for sure.)
So, off to the races I went.
I would start the newsletter with a popular gangster rap lyric (with a bit of a fitness ‘twist’).
I would give out free swag to the first person to correctly tell me what song it was from.
I’d respond to every single person who hit reply and gave a good guess (try it, I’ll respond back, and it’s me, not an assistant).
I’d include a solid dose of advice, along with some highlights from social media posts, etc.
That sounded like fun!
And wouldn’t you know it.
Making it attractive made it possible for me to write this newsletter every single week for 5 straight years!
Go me!
Hell yes, that’s good stuff!
That James Clear dude really knows what he’s talking about!
I’ve given out over 250 free items from my swag shop.
I’ve responded to literally thousands of people who have messaged me after reading the newsletter.
I’ve had countless people (who haven’t paid me a dime) tell me how much the newsletter has changed their life.
It’s pretty darn cool.
So, thank YOU for being with me on this ride.
Thank YOU for reading every week.
Thank YOU for being such a cool person – it’s much appreciated.
If you’d like to take a trip down memory lane, I have covered so many topics on The NWA Newsletter, it’s hard to wrap your mind around it.
You can read the archives here.
And remember – if you want to start a habit and really make it “stick”, make it attractive.
That just might be the missing piece of the puzzle for you somehow.
Here’s to another 5 years!
Let’s go!
I’ve been coaching men and women in 1:1, personalized protocols since 2013.
Here’s an example from Tres – he lost 30 pounds in my program and now has a 6 pack at the age of 49:
