Last name ever,
First name greatest,
Like a bench press, boy,
I ain’t nothin’ to play with.

N.W.A. Tip Of The Week
It’s funny the crazy things that go viral on the internet…
Did you see the Boomer v Gen X v Millenials v Zoomers battle over $28 lunches that tore through X/Twitter a few weeks back?
It all started when Kevin O’Leary (the Shark Tank guy) was quoted in an interview saying “if you’re making $70k per year, you probably shouldn’t be spending $28 going out to lunch each day”.
The video went viral, and each generation had a different take on the subject.
You had Boomers, Gen X, and most Millenials agreeing with him, saying you should be more frugal if that’s your income level.
But then you had the Zoomers… Good old Gen Z… boy, they did NOT like being told their $28 lunches were a bad idea…
I had no idea saying such a simple, obvious thing – that you shouldn’t be spending a lot on lunch if you don’t have a high income – would be seen as controversial.
Isn’t that just common sense?
After seeing some of the comments from the younger generations online, I ended up feeling like a Boomer myself.
I wanted to tell those entitled jerks to pick themselves up by their bootstraps, and stop complaining! (LOL)
Of course, being the rage-bait-poster I am, I figured I’d chime in with this gem:
I knew that one would pop off, and it did – it was seen a half million times or so.
I got called every name under the sun, none of them good.
Just another day on the interwebz, am I right?
But the discourse over making your own meals vs dining out really DID get me thinking about all the money I’ve saved over the years by sticking to this habit.
When I was fresh out of college in 2004, I moved in with my wife into a small, 2 bedroom apartment.
We didn’t really cook much; we would dine out all the time.
We both gained weight rapidly, and also noticed our bank accounts were headed in the wrong direction.
It wasn’t long thereafter, we realized something.
We needed to buy food at the grocery store, learn how to cook, and make our own meals.
We would be healthier, and we would save a lot of money that way.
So that’s what we did.
And we’ve been doing that ever since.
We dine out on Saturday nights each week.
Occasionally, on a Sunday, we will grab take out or carry out.
But that’s it.
We don’t eat out for a single meal during the weekdays, unless it’s a special occasion (maybe an extra meal or two out over Christmas break, for example).
This has allowed us to stay at a healthy weight, and save a metric SHIT TON of money over the years.
Especially with restaurant prices the way they are now.
I can’t remember the last time our family of 4 dined out for less than $125 after tax and tip.
Most of the meals we make at home cost around $20.
That means each week, we are saving somewhere in the ballpark of $500 just by eating dinner at home instead of going out each night.
That’s insane if you think about it that way.
That’s $26,000 saved over the course of the year.
And it’s a heck of a lot healthier to boot.
You add in lunch out, too?
And the numbers are even worse…
For a dozen years, I was a broke-as-a-joke teacher.
I learned how to be frugal.
I drove a 2002 Honda Accord.
I brought my lunch to work.
I meal prepped on the weekends.
I always looked for bargains and deals.
These days, I’m a not-so-broke business owner.
I still do most of the same things.
I drive an 8 year old F150 with 106,000 miles on it.
I still eat at home every day.
I still meal prep on the weekends.
I still look for bargains and deals.
Luxuries like dining out are meant to be special treats.
They are not meant to be daily occurrences.
Same concept with your diet – want to have some ice cream, a candy bar, or a few drinks now and again?
Sure, go for it.
But every day?
Yeah… that ain’t gonna work… and you know that.
I pray for those Zoomers.
I have 2 daughters who are in that generation.
Every time they ask for Starbucks, and we say yes, my wife and I will tell them, “You are lucky we can do this; when you get your own job and pay your own bills, you won’t be able to”.
Maybe they are listening.
Who knows, though, they’re 15 and 13, you know how it is at that age.
Hope you have a great weekend – and have some “avocado toast” on me…
I’ve been coaching men and women in 1:1, personalized protocols since 2013.

It’s crazy to think the average desk worker could lose the belly by simply:
- Taking a 1 hour walk each day
- Stop snacking
- Eat 150-200 grams of protein per day
But just can’t be bothered to do it.
Even if you don’t want to be “jacked”, being healthy is easy.
I hope you enjoyed this edition of the Anyman Fitness N.W.A. Newsletter.
I’ll be back next week.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
