N.W.A. Tip Of The Week

I recently came across this post on X/Twitter that made me raise my eyebrows:

It definitely made me think for a few minutes…

So, this person says she thinks about her weight (and by proxy, her health) every day.

The way she phrases this statement makes it seem like this is a bad thing.

Some type of mental health issue, or perhaps and obsession.

The underlying thought here is “if you think about your weight, something is wrong”.

Or perhaps “normal people do not think about their weight on a daily basis”.

I suppose I can see the point.

You shouldn’t be overly obsessed with your weight; it should not consume your every thought and action.

BUT, I don’t agree that thinking about your weight is necessarily a bad thing.

Let me explain…

In the world of self-improvement, there are three domains – we call them “The 3 F’s”.

You have Fitness (your health).

Finance (your wealth).

And Fu… ahem… Relationships (your love life).

There is actually one more self-improvement domain – Spirituality – but that domain doesn’t extend to everyone, and is less universal/more personal in nature (so we will leave it out for now).

You should always be trying to improve each of these domains through your daily actions and habits.

Improving your Fitness is going to extend your life, improve the quality of life you live, give you more confidence, and improve your mental health as well.

Improving your Finance is going to relieve money induced stress, make more opportunities available to you, and (eventually) allow you to not need to work any longer.

Improving your Relationships is a fundamental aspect of human beings – we all need to be loved and feel secure; this is a major “rung” of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

Your body weight is a major aspect of improving your health and fitness.

In fact, you could argue the #1 thing you can do to improve your longevity is to get to a healthy body weight (and #2 is lift weights to maintain muscle mass).

It’s not a bad thing to think about your weight regularly.

Now, should you completely obsess about it and have it rule your life non-stop?

No, of course not, that’s not healthy.

But I think about my weight on a daily basis.

I have for the last 20 years or so.

I remain impartial and stay “chill” about it.

But yeah… if you’ve been fat before, here’s a truth bomb for you:

The work is never done.

It never ends.

EVER.

If you’ve been overweight and you’ve gotten the weight off of you, you will need to be focused on your diet and fitness routine for the rest of your life.

That doesn’t mean you will need to “diet” forever, on the contrary.

But it DOES mean you can’t go back to disregarding certain things, like calories, protein, lifting programs, etc.

You’ll need to keep those going as a part of your life, quite literally forever.

(This is a BIG reason why I do not suggest gimmicky diets that are overly restrictive, or training every day – you HAVE to make your fitness routine sustainable over time.)

So, yeah… it’s OKAY if you think about your health/weight daily.

You could actually make the argument that it’s a good thing.

Don’t obsess about it, of course.

But also, please don’t think there’s anything wrong with you because you’re focused on your health.

More people SHOULD be focused on their health, it’s definitely not a bad thing.
