Time for the newest edition of “Gainz Of The Week” – the premier spot for the best information to improve your fitness levels – and your life.
Each week, we bring you:
- New news in the world of Anyman Fitness.
- A recap of the week’s featured article.
- A kick-ass update from one of our online training clients.
- Thoughts regarding a common fitness question.
- The best fitness articles on the interwebzzzzzzz.
Howdy, yall – hope you’re having an awesome Sunday.
This week was bizzzz-ayyyyy around here.
Our oldest daughter, Brooklyn, began kindergarten, our youngest, Ava, started up pre-school after the summer break, I returned to the classroom, and life keeps rollin’ along for Anyman Fitness.
Physically, I finally finished that damn 8-month cut and moved into a building phase.
I’m going to do a bit of experimentation – 4 months of ZERO DEADLIFTS OR SQUATS.
But before you start counting me down and out just yet, there’s a method to this madness.
This programming is written by me and based on research and evidence – and I have a hypothesis I will make some sweet-ass gains in the next few weeks.
What it means is lots of “Arms Days”. Which is HELLA fun – and brutal at the same time.
Of course, I’ll keep you posted through it all.

This week’s article highlighted all the reasons you need to pick up a barbell and start lifting.
Lifting has immense health benefits and psychological carryover to all aspects of your life.
Have you ever seen a tough lifter who was a push-over?
Me, neither.
Have a read of this week’s article – “11 Ways Lifting Improves Your Life” ===> [HERE]
***BONUS – an article of mine from mid-August, “Exposed: Fitness Pictures Are Fake!” made it to Men’s Health, and then was promptly picked up by Yahoo!
Exciting stuff! Check out the Yahoo article ===> [HERE]
Don’t read the comments, though………….that’s a bad idea. 🙂
Client Gainz Of The Week
This week’s gainz come from long-term online client Zoya.
Zoya is a 52-year old trainee (sorry for divulging that, Zoya……..) who came to us looking for a difficult endeavor.
She wanted to go from “lean” to “really lean”.
It’s more difficult to lose fat the leaner you are, so this was not an easy task.
We set Zoya up with a modest deficit and a training program. She was already a petite female, so we had to be careful not to under-nourish her. Her maintenance was tiny.
After a full 12 weeks had passed, we had a few results, but not the results we were after. We made some adjustments, kept the calories the same and increased the carbs (wat?!?), and the fat promptly started melting off of her.
Zoya got her wish – a full 6-pack at the age of 52.
Kick ass, Zoya!
This was made possible due to two things:
- Zoya was consistent with macro counting. This enables you to make methodical, rational decisions.
- Zoya was willing to experiment with the variables. This self-experimentation gave her the results she was after.
Job well done and keep us posted in the future, Zoya!
Thought Gainz Of The Week
This week’s thought gains come from client Maria.
Maria is kicking ass and taking names right now. But she was a bit perplexed by one of our “little wrinkles” in our programs.
She emailed me, wondering:
Hey, Jason,
A quick question for you.
We don’t count any veggies in this program. I’m eating carrots, broccoli, mushrooms, and onions on a regular basis.
If we are supposed to be counting our macros, why don’t we have to count these items? They have calories, don’t they? How does this work?
Enlighten me, oh great math teacher – do the numbers just disappear? Lol!
Thanks, Maria
An excellent question. Here’s my response:
